Carson, is that all? If that's addiction, I don't know what you'd call me. I have it open all day and have no count on how many times I check it.
Oh well, it's way better than having a gambling or alcohol addiction

Hi Carson,
My name is Clete and I'm a forumholic.
[group chants: "Hi, Clete" ]
It's been 7 hours since my last post.
But seriously, I think the initial isolation I felt learning steel guitar by myself at home for over a year led to a feeling of euphoria when I discovered this community. All of a sudden a huge library of threads with posts by some of the very best players to peruse, and questions seemed to be answered within minutes of posting. I've learned a great deal about the instrument and made some good friends as well. Unless I become an ogre-like troll, I don't think it's necessarily bad. I'd rather read and write about music than anything else, and well...the steel guitar is addicting!!!

My coffee time in the mornings is generally my Forum time ... though I do find myself popping in and checking it out a few times during the day whenever I have time.
I do admit that I have occasionally spent more time on the Forum than practicing my steel ... I need to make sure I don't develop a habit of letting Forum time interfere with steel picking time.

Addiction or Obsession....................
My 'puter is on 24/7 each day/week.........
I NEVER turn it off. It's sorta like having a steel guitar set up, standing on its own three legs and always plugged into an amp.
Slip in behind it and start playing.........
I visit the Forum anywhere from once to a dozen times each day, or more often if I have idle time on my hands..

I'm an internet addict. I admit it. I'm looking for an on-line 12 step program to cure me of it.
Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

You could join Musicians Anonymous, Mike. It's a 12 half-step program.

From a Google search:
Most addicts [snip] relapse not just once but many times. No matter how desperately they want to quit, they repeatedly return to [snip] their addict(ion) [snip] of choice. In fact, there is a saying used in twelve-step programs and in most treatment centers that “Relapse is part of recovery.” It’s another dangerous slogan that is based on a myth, and it only gives people permission to relapse because they think that when they do, they are on the road to recovery. Just because the failure rate of some treatment programs is so enormous does not mean that relapse has to be the norm. Relapse is not part of recovery.
Relapse is part of failure. Relapse is a return to dependency. [Absinence] is part of recovery. You may now be starting to understand why the relapse rate is so high—it’s because people are just trying to quit without curing the underlying causes, which is like trying to stop scratching while your leg is still itching.
When you look at the worldwide picture of relapse among [snip] addicts, it’s difficult not to believe the slogan that “Relapse is part of recovery.” But the success of the [snip] treatment program has proven otherwise.
Once you have been successful in discovering and dealing with the underlying conditions that were responsible for your dependency in the first place, your dependency will be over.
Relapse IS part of the recovery!!! I recover every night (sleep) and relapse every day. Making neat noises with the steel is addicting. Commiserating with other steelers is part of the healing process.
