The lip on that doesn't look like any Coricidin bottle I ever played, but if you look at the price he's up to you can see the temptation to run off some "faded" labels on the ol' H-P, huh?

Dave, I'm not so sure. I think they changed from glass to pyrex or some softer material somewhere along the line, and this may be the glass version. It does look a bit (but not a lot) different from these on the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Coricidinslides.jpg
My mom went thorough this stuff pretty fast, I had a pretty large stash of these back then. Somehow they got thrown out when my parents moved from Boston to Amherst in the mid-70s. But I do remember a change in the bottles somewhere along the line.

I have one that I bought about the time the Allman Brothers came out with "Ramblin' Man" as I'd heard that's what Dickey Betts used for slide as well as the late Dwayne Allman. I bought a bottle of Coricidin at the local drug store and just dumped out the pills and kept the bottle. I've used it on and off over the years. Is there actually a market for the original ones? I don't think I'd sell mine as it works great. I keep it in the neck compartment of my old brown Les Paul case.......JH in Va.

Slide wise, I prefer brass to glass... my choice.
Seems to me it's easy to get caught up in the "mojo" of particular gear or accessories. I'm not saying certain vintage instruments/amps/etc don't have their own sound, but ultimately if you play through or with the help of these things you'll still sound like you.

I've had 3 original coricidin bottles and over the past 20 years they have all ended up broken.
Now I just buy the repro ones for $10, you can still buy '60s Coricidin type bottles for $20, and original Coricidin(without the label & cap) for about $50.
They don't always have the sticker and lid like the one above, but to use it for slide your more than likely going to take those off and lose them anyway.

The auction ended at $256.50 and it started at $3.99. Had four bidders who went crazy with eBay fever.David Mason wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/AUTHENTIC-CORICIDIN ... 335de88451

I just rooted through it a bit - keeping track of crazy people is MY CALLING, after all - from $60 on up, it was two bidders alternating, and one of them had 70% of "his" activity with that same seller, and the other had 80% of his activity with the same seller - gee what are friends for? Get a few pseudonyms, you'll always have someone to talk to! If he happens to find another one to sell, he can point to this auction that establishes the "worth" of a 50c bottle.

I've never used a Coricidin bottle as a slide. So, disregarding any fear that I'll be accused of being a total idiot, I ask, what makes a Coricidin bottle particularly good as a slide? Is it any better than any other glass pill bottle? In the early 1920's through the 1960's, traditional slide-guitar players made their slides from what ever glass bottle was handy. Typically, liquor bottles. I think Bonnie Raitt uses a socket wrench (so did Lowell George). Is a Coricidin bottle superior to these choices?.... $256 for an old pill bottle!?! Sheesh!!
Keep on pickin'!
