How do you shut the music off...?

Post by Carson Leighton »

I know that this must happen to a lot of people besides me,,but how do you shut that song down that's rolling around upstairs so you can go to sleep...? Lo and behold,,I was working in my little garden the other day, and that song Marty and Merle were singing called Farmers Blues popped into my head and stayed there all day..Kind of appropriate for garden work, even though I'm not much of a farmer... :) Carson

Some people say if you "play" the song all the way through in your head that it will go away.

If you listen the Jon Wayne song "You And The Kitten" a few times, the Merle Haggard song will go away.

Sing Gilligan's Island to the tune of Amazing Grace. Sure cure for ear worms. Gregg Galbraith told me that trick.

Earnest,,I have never heard of that song...Bob Denver of Gilligans Island used to come here on vacation about every year, and stay not far from where I live...Gilligan's Island to the tune of Amazing Grace just might work..Who'd want that rollin' around in their head all night long... ;-)

I think this is an interesting topic, that's never been broached before.
I have this problem, usually, late at night, when, I'm trying to go to sleep. A tune will go through my head and I start figuring it out on my steel. Sometimes it just won't stop and it drives me crazy. I've found, that, if I get up and start to play through what I was thinking, it then subsides in intensity. If I'm not able to access my steel, eventually, it kind of goes on the back burner, but, never disappears. It certainly is a strange malady and can be quite annoying, at times.
I don't knowe if there is a "cure" for it.
On another note, when I play through what's haunting me, I feel much better and have another tune for my arsenal.

Reading helps.

Repeating a mantra helps too. I repeat the nonsense syllables "I - ing, I ing, I Ing" in my head, over and over again. An old hindu trick. Helps lower your blood pressure as well.

Isn't that for premature ejaculation?
Actually, I've had this condition for a long time. I can be listening to a song on the iPod and have another song playing in my head at the same time. Very distracting. I have the same thing going on when I'm reading. I've never really researched it, but I suspect it has something to do with Attention Deficit Disorder, ADD.

Sometimes a mystery guest puts a whole roll of quarters in the jukebox in your mind and plays the same song over and over. I say let him buy you a beer, too.

Cal, my name is NOT Jack, its Kevin. I resemble that remark, and I say that without constipation. I'm going to go drink some decapitated coffee.

Cal,,I believe you are right..Your condition sounds the same as mine... Keeping focused on what I'm reading is a real problem too..I have to re-read a lot...I've had this problem for as long as I can remember...It is always worse for me after a recording session or a gig as far as the music goes....Just can seem to shut it down....Carson

I find that a gift and a blessing. When you have listened to enough music long enough you can play it back in your mind with the accuracy of a tape recorder. This means you are a real musician. My mind is my radio.
