FSK Reverb

Post by Wally Taylor »

Maybe it is just me, but I cannot find a happy place with the reverb settings on my Steel King. Any sttting suggestions would be appreciated. I always loved Fender reverbs, but something is just missing on the FSK.

Thanks in advance.

You're right, the reverb on the FSK has a very "long tail"... too long. The only way to reduce the long fade of the verb is to lessen the amount of reverb, but then the sound is too dry. There's really no happy medium. I quit using the reverb in my Steel King a couple of years ago and I use a Holy Grail Plus reverb (spring setting). The amp sounds much warmer now.

Thanks Doug, I have been thinking along those lines. A warmer sound would be nice, and anything closely resembling a warm tube sound is a plus for sure.

I agree with all the above opinions about the Fender Steel King reverb. I'm starting a modification experiment to fine tune the Steel King reverb and get it to sound more like a great Twin Reverb reverb sound. I'll post my results when I break the code.

FSK reverb is pretty horrible. I use a lot of different amps so using an external reverb unit allows me to have the same reverb with all of my amps. As such I really don't need reverb in any amp unless it's an older silver or black face Fender tube amp with a good tank in it. Those rock!
