From Carol Kaye's own Forum:
"I also had a custom elec. 12-string guitar made out of an ordinary Guild T-100D 6-string elec. guitar (by repairman ace Milt Owen - he replaced pickups at my request, and fitted in the extra 6 strings on the headstock - it was a thin neck and played good)... I had him put in hot pickups too for potent biting elec. 12-string sounds. This was before elec. 12-string guitars were manufactured. And that's the sounds of the elec. 12-string guitar you hear on the Sonny & Cher records and some other recordings too."
So there you go.

I got to see a special screening of this film last night - it is awesome. The filmmaker, Denny Tedesco (Tommy's son) is trying to raise money to pay for the licensing fees of all the music used in the movie so it can be properly released. Check their website to see if it's coming somewhere near you. www.wreckingcrewfilm.com
I went home and practiced after seeing it, that's for sure!

They showed this about two years ago at a small theater up here,It's awesome. The end of the movie is very sad where Denny said that most of Tommy's calls had quit coming in and they showed a B&W clip of Tommy walking around with his guitar case.I saw Tommy Play at a NAMM show in about 1980,Besides being a great guitarist he was also one funny guy!

He did win that "GONG" show...
He went to audition as a lark and they said that in another studio they were taping the show so they took him in and put him on the show.
He won the show and they gave him the winnigs... seems to me it was around $100...I guess after the episode was aired he sent them a bill for his appearance, his "UNION WAGES" and for the "ROYALTIES" for the song that he wrote!!

Hey Stu...I met him at a NAMM show about 1980 too...funny guy.
He used to have a regular article in Guitar Player magazine and talk about his recording experiences..each session..what it was..what he did...the equipment that he used...and what he made for the session.
Once he talked about being called to back up a singer at the Hollywood Bowl. (I think it was Bobby Daren) He sat down and looked the the parts and thought that it would be pretty easy so he put in an ear plug and started listening the Dodger game on the radio.
In the middle of a ballad the ear plug fell out and landed by the mic by his amplifier...it went out over the PA..."3 and 2 the count on..." the singer turned around looking at the band trying to find where it was coming from...can't remember if they caught him.

He also was a regular on the Martin Mull/Fred Williamson... "FERNWOOD TONIGHT TV SHOW".
He was in the "HOUSE BAND"...they played it like they were all from a local "Day" job working in a warehouse and then showing up at night to be the band and do the TV show.

I read one of his articles in Guitar Player years ago. He was talking about a LOT of different string instruments he played on sessions. He said he tuned most of them to regular sixstring guitar tuning and played them like a regular guitar. [I DON'T KNOW] just what the man said. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.
