Singing in a Foreign Language

Post by Alan Brookes »

Why do people insist on singing songs in a language that they have no knowledge of, only to make fools of themselves ? I remember when Sukiyaki hit the top of the charts in 1961. Suddenly all sorts of people, without knowing a word of Japanese, put it into their act. By the way, the word "sukiyaki" doesn't appear anywhere in the words of the song. It was put on the record label because the real title was unpronouncable to western ears.

I cringe every time I hear "Donka Shane", which should sound "Danka shern".

They say that while Marty Robbins was recording his Hawaiian albums, at times he brought the backing group, who were native Hawaiians, to fits of laughter.

Ever heard the German version of J.Hendrix' The Wind Cries Mary?
Well not by Jimi but Bill Ramsey who had some 'Schlager' in the sixties, here in Germany.
