Dylan

Post by Ray Minich »

Just (for the first time) heard Bob Dylan's rendition of Zepplin's "When the Levee Breaks", from his "Modern Times" release of 2006. What a changeup. And it sounds good too. Even a little slide steel buried in the mix.

Just goes to show what a little imagination can accomplish.

I haven't heard Dylan's version, but it's more likely that he went back to the original, written and recorded in 1929 by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, to find inspiration for his own version.

Just goes to show that one can't assume anything. Who'd a thunk Led Zepplin was doing a cover tune on this one.

Thanks Steiner.

I heard Jakob Dylan this morning on NPR. They played some tracks from his new solo album produced by T Bone Burnett. It really sounded nice. He is starting, at least for me, to really dig out of his father's shadow.

Led Zeppelin has a long history of ripping off other artists and not giving them credit. The only exception is Willie Dixon, who had to sue them to get partial songwriting credit for You Shook Me.
