While browsing YouTube I came across a vid (only a photo with music) of a song from one of Texas' greatest, although, lesser known bands: Jimmie Heap & the Melody Masters. Among their hits was 1953's "Release Me" (yes, the same song Ray Price recorded).
A number of years ago, I had the pleasure of playing in a band that did covers of several Jimmy Heap hits. Among those were hits were "Conscience I'm Guilty", "I'll Follow The Crowd", and "Ethyl In My Gas Tank".
Here is the vid I mentioned. "Ethyl In My Gas Tank" (Houston 'Perk' Williams - fiddle and vocal; Jimmie Heap - lead guitar; Cecil 'Butterball' Harris - steel guitar; Horace Barnett - rhythm guitar; Bill Glendening - bass; Dough Hudson - drums; Arlie Carter - piano): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDDZOvnSAcI
Keep on pickin'!

Did the band you were in do the immortal "When They Operated On Papa, They Opened Mama's Male"?
No, The Wildbunch (the band I referred to) didn't do that one, and I don't think I've ever heard it, either. The title would indicate it's a good'n! Was it from Jimmie's "Laff" series albums he did with Ken Idaho?
I forgot to mention the place where I say with Jimy Heap. It was at the , Esquire Ballroom, in Houston back around 1958. At the time I was singing as well as playing steel. Each time I'd go there, Jimmy would n't hesitate to call me up on stage to sing with them.
Hi Tony. I remember the Esquire Ballroom very well. Been there many times. My old pal Jimmy Dry(deceased) was in the band there. I didn't get to work for Jimmy Heap, but the band I was in did some "Battle Dances" with the MelodyMasters where both bands were on stage for the last set. This was the early 70's. Bill and Butterball were still in the band. Also Ken Idaho. Jody.
