Dan Dugmore on steel

Post by Scott Shipley »

I just uploaded new music on my webpage. I wrote this song for my Mom and Dad, after my Mom passed away August 19th.
It's called "Dancin Shoes," and features Dan Dugmore on steel. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

That's a pretty nice memorial to your folks Scott.

Is that also Dan on the other cut [Do it Now] there with steel? Nice tunes all, I think.

Thanks Jerry, I appreciate the kind words!
That's the great Bobbe Seymour on "Do It Now." Kevin Owens is playing on "Flowers."

I'm in the middle of cooking dinner out here, and have only listened to "Dancin' Shoes," so far and Scott, that is one helluva song! 8)

Just beautiful.

And Dan just kills on it - what a player.

Thanks Mark, I appreciate that.
Dan is such a tasteful player, and a super nice guy too. He listens to the words, that's rare these days. The EQ on his steel is almost completely flat too. Great tone!

Great song Scott,

Dan's playing always reminds me of Pee Wee Charles, especially the sound of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. He never overplays and always sets the tone for the song.
What a great tribute!
Regards, Craig

I have had questions for Dan in the past and e-mailed him a couple times and he promptly replied. He didn't have to, but he took the time. He is just one of my favorites on both pedals and lap. I love his solo on "Come To Jesus" by Mindy Smith on lap steel.

Listening to the words - it seems obvious, but I think a lot of musicians don't get it. At a workshop a few years ago dobro wizard Rob Ickes spent a fair amount of time emphasizing that concept and how it should effect one's playing on a song.

Scott, I really enjoyed that. For me the word that defines Dan Dugmore is "commercial". He is a master at supprting the song.

What is a "gryphon high 12 string"?

Thanks Bill. The gryphon high 12 string is made by Veillette Guitars. Really cool sound. I used it after the modulation, where the "angel choir" came in.

Bill, the eq on the Gryphon is also almost flat. Just added some air on top. We mic'ed it stereo with an MXL 603s Mogami on the neck, and a M-Audio Luna on the body.
