Post by William Clark »

A friend of mine just sent me the link on this Ebay auction. The seller claims he bought it from the estate of Leon McAuliffe. It will only set you back $150k!!! Link to auction on eBay.

I got to see it a few weeks ago

I handled the Broadcaster in mid January at the Arizona owner's house. He also has Leon McAuliffe's Hall of Fame plaque, maybe three of his Fender steels, his Broadcaster #084, a small piece of luggage that Leon used for broken and spare parts, a cool D-8 Rick I have pictured below, and -- THE LEON McAULIFFE MULTICHORD!
See picture. The Broadcaster is medium weight. It is heavy compared to the seller's Nocaster that is caramel colored and featherweight.
Look in the picture and you can see THE LEON McAULIFFE MULTICHORD PEDALS, and the parts luggage case with Leon's wife's initials, maybe?

Although this is an incredible piece of history, it's not a steel guitar. Moved to Music from Steel Without Pedals.

Someone should post this link on the Telecaster forums. I would, but I'm not a member.

I have to admit it is cool. I just wish I had a spare kidney to sell to raise the cash!

The Steel Guitar in the picture looks like a Rickenbacher to me. Check out the horseshoe pickup the body configuration, and fret boards. It's similiar to one played by Charles Mitchell in the early fourties. If you look close, it's a double neck. This is really a rare Guitar.

Chris, you are right! That's a cool-looking Rick. I've never seen one like that.
