Question for Paul Martin

What size and brand of Upright is that you play on the show? It sure has a beautiful finish. By the way, we really enjoy the show & you all look like it's so much fun, but it must be lots of work too! Thanks for posting on the forum and keep us informed on the best music show on TV!

Hey Roger- I have been playing a newer Chinese made bass for the show, but I recently replaced it with a 1941 Gibson. I have been pleased with the Chinese bass, but I felt the older bass would work better for the show. We do have a great time doing these, but I can tell you it's hard work too. We try to really get as close to the original recording as possible, because we all respect the folks that made those records.

Paul, to me, that stand up bass makes it. I wish more country bass players would play them. Very tastefully used. Sounds classic. Paul, what is Superman's background? He's a smokin stand up player.

Superman is wonderful. He has played with Jim and Jesse, Tennessee Mafia Jug band, and I'm pulling a blank over who else he has worked with, but he's been around a good long while. The bass he is playing on the Marty show was Joe Zinkin's. So you can only imagine the hits that bass has been used on. Superman bought the bass from Joe years ago, and got some great tips as well. It's fun having him on the show. He will be on the Kitty Wells show which I think will be the finale of the season. All I can say about that show is it WAS special. Hope that is some good info on Superman.
