Electric Autoharp New Country Update (Tony P. please read)

Post by Rick Campbell »

Update on the electric phased distorted autoharp act. Yes, my roots are country, but I was able to sucessfully lay that aside and move on to bigger and better things. Yes, the recent show with the new country covers was a crowd pleaser. I had a woman throw her panties on the stage and they covered the drummer and his complete drum set. This brings out emotions that people didn't know they had. Men and women that have let some staleness creep into there marriages were lip locked and slobbering all over one another. The younger kids were excited beyond description and texting all their friends about the show. The younger guys were chasing after the Cougars and giving out their phone numbers right and left. It's one of the most amazing things you'll ever see on stage. There was a strip club down the road that closed early to let people come up to hear my autoharp act. Yes, it goes way beyond new country, rock, or jazz and takes it to a whole different realm. The great thing about it is that there's no playing technique rules. I mean, I'm obviously an established Pro and everything, but there's no advice I can give anybody for it because anything goes and it's all correct. Like..... "There's no rules in the Tango" (Colonel Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman) It might be best described as an audio free-for-all. I'm going to classify it as a therapy treatment so I won't have to be concerned with AFofM, or ASCAP/BMI/SESAC performance payments. I expect full support of the medical community. There's a possibility that we'll get an endorsement offer from Pfizer/Viagra, but we won't accept any limp offers.

Because I can't be in more than one place at a time, I might consider franchising this act. I'll go ahead and put Tony Prior down for the Charlotte area because he's already shown some interest. No real training required, just some specs on the equipment you'll need, suggestions on the material, and the rights to tell everyone that we're buddies on a first name basis. You'll need to get with my chief financial officer, Bama Charlie, on this, but I expect the franchise fee to be in the mid six figures plus 20% of the revenue. It should pay for itself in three to six months. There's a few commerical rules, No recorded performances, CD's DVD, etc... it's only allowed to be witnessed live. I'll specify what strings you are required to use on your autoharp, not that it's important, but I have keep some control.... but you never have to change them, just replace if one breaks. No overalls, cowboy hats, boots, tee shirts, or belt buckles larger than a saucer. Tatoos are encouraged, the more exotic the better. I'll specify the dress code later. I plan to work with Victoria's Secret on a unisex line of clothing. Conduct rules - If someone does offer any criticism about your show, or opinion of your performance, you are to thank them, be professional, respect their viewpoint, and say no more. We don't want our Pro status to be an ego food. You can always learn something from another player, if nothing else, how not to play. We will do nothing but live performances, and we're not allowed to ever play anything the same way twice. This will eliminate the temptation of copy cats trying to bootleg our music.

There's lots more work to do, but it's an exciting road ahead, Hall Of Fame, annual and regional conventions, endorsements, fan clubs, etc....

Anyone interested should contact me or Bama Charlie. Bring your pocketbooks, we're not doing this for our health. :)

Mr. Rick,Sorry buddy you are 80 years to late. Mama Maybelle was using a coal powered Eletro Harmonix Phaser on her auto harp in the 20's. If you don't believe me pull out her old 78's and listen real close. Some think some of her strings were out of tune,NO . YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Bama,

Mother Maybell didn't have the electronics that I have, and certainly not the stage presence and new country song selection that inspired me. She couldn't be beat on Wildwood Flower, but this is a different and different approach to music. I think her and AP would be proud of me. :)

It really bothers me when people get in a rut with their music and don't want to see it expand and progress. Where would county music be today, were it not for the basic country acts like The Eagles, CCR, etc... to show us how it's suppose to be done? We might be forced to listen to stuff like this when we turned on the radio:

Mr. Rick, The Eagles and CCR,When I'm in the mood for some country music,I have moved them to the TOP of my pile of CD'S. Just think 70's rock was MORE in line with country than the so-called country of today. YOU BETCHA, DYK?BC.

Rick – Those are the funniest 2 paragraphs I’ve read anywhere in years. And Carl and Pearl rule. What hair. What outfits. Carl just wrings it out, especially at the end. Anyone recognize those hands on the steel player? Distinctive pinky.

Howard, you might to consider a franchise for yourself. Carl and Pearl were the real deal. They had so much prefessionalism on stage. I never met them, but I wish I had. :)

Rick, I think you may be on to something BIG. If you could combine the electric autopart, oops I meant autoharp, and that beehive hair-do like Pearl has, I think you could make it!

BTW I LOVED the Country Carnival when Del was the host. I wish I had a DVD of all those shows.

Tony, 15% will probably work. I'm considering the volume of work you'll be doing will offset the lower fee. I'm kind of counting on you to head up us reopening Hearitage USA down there at the PTL Club site. We'll call it something else like Autoharp Charity Donations Club, ACDC Of course our favorite charity will be ourselves, so it should fit right in with that site.

Somebody emailed me about practice tracks. NO, I can't stress the enought, NO practice tacks. We do not want a bunch of canned preformances. This is a learn on the job deal. You can't make any mistakes, because there's no rules. The magic is the dress code and set up of the instrument, not the playing. If you want to play "Look At Us" with the same arrangement, tempo, copy cat licks, then you should stick with steel guitar. The Electic Autoharp is for the person that recognizes the progession of music and it's changing with the times. We may do "Cold Cold Heart, but we;ll call it Cold Cold Harp. No one will be able to recognize it and will have someting new and exciting to offer.

More later. It's not easy being a big star.

Tony - please get with BABA on the leases, insurance, complete remodling, etc... of the PTL property.
