George Jones' Tribute to the Opry

Post by John Sluszny »

I'm looking for a song by the great George Jones.
This song is sort of a tribute to the Grand Ole Opry.
I've been looking here:

but couldn't find it.
Any idea?Thanks for your help.

Nobody's filling their shoes. I look for the standard Opry footware to be flip flops before long.

Thank you Leroy,I didn't know that one,but sorry,it's not the one I'm looking for.
I think he (George jones) said something like the Opry is a Lady in the song.

This might be easily dismissed by many as a long shot, but would I bet against it? Not a chance!

That would be more than when it started. Judge Hayes tried to get everyone, on the Opry, to go barefoot with bib overalls & straw hats in the '20s. He thought it would help the musicians appeal more to the poor working lower class.

I'm glad that idea didn't take hold. Bill Monroe made it a point to stay away from that hillbilly image. I asked him about that, and he said that he wanted people to take him and his music serious, and that most of the people dressing that way were comedians.

Charlie Cline told me that Bessie Lee bought him a pair of shoes because his came apart and he didn't have enough money to buy any.

John, are you talking about"The Grandest Lady of Them All"?That was a song that Conway Twitty had out about the Opry maybe 30 years ago...I think Mel McDaniel may have written it-George Jones may have cut it too,but I don't recall hearing anything about it when I worked for him...

I think they should go back to the polyester suits of the '70s. Now that was a classy look.

Yep, with those flaps on the pockets. I was in high school then and I wore one to my prom, and I was in style. If I remember correctly, mine was some kind of pale pastel green. Really pukey looking. My date had some kind of white shoes that she had put polish on, and it ended up all over the back seat of my friends mom's dark green car interior. I don't know how that happened. They called that girl "shoe polish" for the rest of the year.
