I am aware that a thread like this was here before but i hope this one will be different . As with the steel guitar we all seem to have our own style of playing . I was wondering what style/styles of martial arts that our forum friends are now or have studied ? I hope this is in the right place ! Ok i will start with myself . My first style was Shorin Ryu . I was a tournament fighter in this system . Then i went into a combat system called Burmese Bando . This system has it all in the martial science . Afterward i studied 7 Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu . Great system . Along with teaching combat arts i also was a referee for the fighting tournaments . My highlight was as a referee for the A.A.U. Olympic Qualifying . There were a lot of great artist there . Ok enough about me now it's your turn . I hope this is fun for all . Best regards , G.P.

My son and I took Kung Fu (Choy Li Fut) together for a number of years but knocked it off when we started kickin' the crap outta each other- something about it just didn't seem right

. I also took Tai Chi for about 5 years- that was a bit more tame.

I know you're proud of your accomplishments, but I personally can't see where this has anything to do with Pedal Steel Guitar!

I've first studied Wado Ryu Style then Full Contact during my military service then switched to Kendo then at last to Yoseikan Budo some 12 years ago 'til today. Now I manage a club counting more or less 40 people.

About 2 years of Tai Chi (Gregory Fong, Yu Shaowen) about 6 years ago.

About 6 years of fencing about 20 years ago.

1/2 years of some hard chinese style whose name escapes me, again about 20 years ago.

Nick thanks for your input . As we all know in life we all have things that mean a lot to us . I'm very thankful that b0b lets us talk about other things than steel guitar . There has been other subjects talked about here and we all chimed in . I think its good to know what other steel players do other than play steel guitar . I also like to fly ,along with others on the forum and thats a great subject also . So this does have to do with steel players and their hobbies you see . But again thanks for your input .

Also i want to thank the rest of you steel players for your input , it's appreciated .

Northern Shaolin derivative called My jaw law horn, random stuff in the Marines, and some full contact Kick Boxing( about 4 matches worth till I chickened out). Been leaning towards Wing Chun lately, as the knees hurt pretty bad these days and the upper body technique is solid.

My Bass player studied Hung Gar for many years.

but i agree with Nick that this has nothing to do with pedal steel and it's just a waste of bandwidth of this forum

like i said...nothing personal

but when i read post about...show me your dogs,cars, motorbikes ect...that has nothing to do with steel guitars and that some people tried to get a (PSG builder's section) added to the forum and was refused $:\$ , i think there's something wrong somewhere.

Maybe the best place to discuss hobbies etc would be the extended family section,I've seen a LOT of post about cars,bikes,sports,etc.things that have NOTHING to do with steel guitars. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

I think you and I have already discussed my training and grades a couple of years ago despite health issues.Check the Martial arts page on my website. Still love it and still do occasional training with one of my first students.

Gary: I Started In Judo while in Korea, then switched to Tae Kwon Do and In Japan switched to Oyama Kyokushinkai. Kyokushinkai was the hardest and I operated a dojo for twenty years.

Nick, of course you mean like the threads on, Motor bikes and steel players or, ham radio operators and steel players and classic car collectors and steel players.

Thanks Les for your support . It appears that most of the replys are from folks that it was meant for and that is those that have been interested in the martial science . I am aware that there are those that wouldn't like anything regardless if they were involved in it or not . This is a friendly forum that b0b has made and again i am thankful . It wasn't my intention to upset anyone with this thread . I was curious about other steel players with like interest .There are other things that steel players do beside play steel . As a matter of fact if this offends b0b i ask that he close this thread . B0b has been very good to us all to let us share issues here ,and thank you b0b for that .
