John Anderson in Branson - Excellent!
Last night we went to see John Anderson at the RFD TV Theater. I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a show as much
John carries an excellent six piece band. I would guess he also has a sound man, whoever was running the board knew their stuff. The mix was very good allowing all instruments to be heard at a nice volume level. It was a little higher volume level than what we typically get at Branson shows but for me it was about perfect. A lot of the shows seem a little bit "hearing aid friendly" for my tastes, but I don't blame them. Yes, you could hear the steel!
John doesn't do much talking during the show, he just steps right up and does hit after hit. Frankly I had forgotten just how many successful songs he has had during his long career. They played for about 80 minutes with one section of "condensed hits" so as to be able to include more songs. We felt that we got our money's worth, and then some.
If this is John's usual show I would highly recommend seeing him if you get the chance!

And the fiddle player is Joe Spivey also of The Time Jumpers. I've opened for them 3 or 4 times. They are all a great bunch of guys. John has never met a stranger and will talk music and songwriting for as long as you like. He knows where his pay check comes from and really appreciates his fans.

THAT'S where I had heard of Joe Spivey, thank you! My ears were kind of plugged when the steel player was introduced so I did not catch his name but did hear that he was from Illinois. The drummer was from Chicago and was fabulous.
John has a very distinctive vocal style, you can always tell who it is when he comes on the radio. This is sadly lacking in many artists these days. Somehow he has a way of really making you feel the songs.
I would have loved to say hello to him to personally tell him how much I enjoyed it all but unfortunately they did not do the "shake and howdy" after the show, probably needed to get on down the road. He did shake hands from the stage and seemed to enjoy it, not like he was being a snob or anything like that.
