The "Arhoolie 40th Anniversary Collection 1960-2000: The Journey of Chris Strachwitz" won the Grammy in Category 82, Best Album Notes. Congratulations to Chris and Elijah Wald, who wrote the text for the 68-page 12"X12" booklet included with 5-CD boxed set.
Chris has produced an impressive body of work in four decades, including 8 Sacred Steel albums. He has captured some of America's best and grittiest vernacular music, some of which would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
Kudos to all!

In many ways I wish that Chris had devoted himslef more to Bluegrass, then we'd probably have had much more on the Californian groups of the 1960s, most of which rarely recorded.
As it stands he did some great stuff, there was a Lousiana Bluegrass band he recorded, Del McCoury's debut album in 1968, plus he used to book shows for acts like Bill Monroe in Norhtern CA.
Chris recorded some of the finest blues, cajun, R&B and roots acts around, oh yeah.. he was even involved with the early Country Joe & The Fish as well as travelling over the southern States trying to find elder bluesmen and rare 78s.
I had no idea this set was out, thanks for the post.. I must admit I totally ignored the Grammy Awards this year.
