Keith Holter's Bigsby Guitar
This link will take you to a good example of the stellar tone of Bigsby guitars, not that we need to be reminded of this. He was hooked up to an Evans RE 200 with a tube preamp.
Keith is also a steel guitarist, but not in this clip. Dean Rankin, Kevin Healy, and Paul Anastasio round out the lead section in this 2007 camcorder recording of Longhorn, our Western Swing band.
Comments are welcome.

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
Pat: A truly great website!
Enjoyed the stories/history.......and music.
Keith and I have shared many a gig, over the years and I always found his musical contributions to be inspiring. On the bandstand, his playing always seemed to drive me to the next higher level of playing.
I was broken hearted when he put the Bigsby aside for so many years while he was transitioning to the pedal steel guitar.
Happy to see he has returned to where he is
at his absolute very best.
You guys have an attractive web site that is very user friendly. Keep up the great work!

Pat,
This is great to see and hear. I may run up to Portland to see you guys this weekend. It's a 3 hour drive and time is a bit tough to come by these days but I am going to try and make it. I met your fiddle player in Weisser Idaho last year and had a great time talking about Bigsby's and we played a few tunes together. Please keep us posted with upcoming gigs.
How long will you guys play saturday ??
Ray are you up that late in the evening ?? If so, I'll try to nudge you downtown for an evening of fine music, and a beer ... or water.

THESE GUYS are the West Coast Version of the Time Jumpers, and I don't feel the least bit guilty of overstating the case.
Not the LEAST BIT.
Far as I'm concerned they are the BEST this Pac NW has to offer for REAL Bandstand musicianship.
I'm hoping to get there in time for Dance Lessons and Harley's Digital Communication Seminar...
It'll be a great way to quietly celebrate my birthday after a year 'll never forget.

Keith Holter & Longhorn..............
Just returned this morning at 1:15 AM, Sunday, May 24th, after one of the most pleasant and enjoyable evenings I've had in quite a long time.
Dropped by Duff's Garage here in Portland to hear that great Longview-Kelso, Washington, group known as Longhorn. The band consisting of Dean Rankin, steel, Keith Holter, lead-g'tar, Kevin (I believe it was) on fiddle, Rudy Alexander, bass, Pat Goodbla, vocals/rythmn, and Keith's son, drums, and daughter Vicki, vocals. I apologize for being unable to recall the drummers correct name and likewise the fine fiddler.
The wife and I spent an entire evening, being able to LISTEN to this fine group. Their individual amps were appropriately volumed and the entire group was likewise working TOGETHER. Not only could those of us in the audience listen easily, but we could hold a conversation, as well.
Lots of fine 3-part harmony with fiddle, steel and lead, playing really tight arrangements and making it look easy.
Long time area vocalist Sammy White arose from the crowd and sang several great numbers that were greatly enjoyed by the enthusiastic crowd.
Eric West, Harley James, Russ Blake, Todd Clinesmith,Dr.Tony Glassman, and a host of others that I can't now recall (sorry about that!) were in the audience.
This was truly an evening of GREAT WESTERN SWING!
The vocals were all tastefully done, individual solo's were great and, as I said, the harmony work was exceptional.
Happy to see this kind of music available to Portlanders, once again. It's been a long wait.

I was floored Pat, and everybody. Your Front Manning, Vocals, and Guitar were the cake that had the best Icing I've heard and seen in a while.
It was a place that wouldn't afford the kind of volume needed for the size show it was, and the band might not have felt it was their best night. Some of their family members are in the hosp, and Keiths Daughter was fighting a chest cold. It's a strange club to say the least. Some people were talking during the performance... (Ray..)
I got some great vids. I'll only be sending them to band members though with a couple small exceptions.
( I apologize for degausing the SGConv vids, but enough of them were mixed with unflattering stuff that it had to be done.)
Dean Rankin is probably Portland's best kept and wrapped national quality player. To play with Keith and Jeff would bring "it" out of most of us long time players, but Dino REALLY shined. They ALL did.
Rudy Alexander held down the bass in FINE fashion, and is many of us here in Portland's Best Friend.
Keith Holder is a Monument. Plain and simple. His son and daughter are HIS treasures that he has generously shared with us.
I wish I could put it into words, and a year or so ago I might have been more able and willing.
If they all put it together for my 56th birthday, I couldn't have asked for a better one. Of course they didn't, but...
Great to see a couple of people that hadn't heard Dino and his mastery drop their jaws a few times and skulk off to go get their costumes dry cleaned..
Like I said...
I was floored.
So was Dr Glassmann.
More words if I had 'em.
A night I won't forget, that's for sure.

Skip(Ray)and Eric, thanks for your support and comments. And thanks to all who were able to make it. We had a blast.
Dan, it would have been nice to see you, but that would have been a pretty good jaunt. The Northwest Western Swing Music Society's August POWS in Auburn, WA is a little closer to you, and there will be lots of Western Swing that weekend.
Longhorn scheduled times are:
Friday August 7 at 6:30 PM
Saturday August 8 at 9:00 PM
Sunday August 9 at 12:30 PM
The HOF induction ceremony is at 2 PM on Sunday.
This will be posted in SGF Events and Announcements as the time draws nearer.
Thanks again to all for your words and thoughts. Keep on Western Swingin'.

Dan....Jammin' would be good. Look forward to it. They start the jams around 10 AM with scheduled bands starting around noon. Then the jams move to another room. Let's do it!!
Don....I agree. It's fun to stretch out a bit and play more than 3 chords and straight rhythm. Thanks for your comments.
