Wow! That was cool. There was only one brief glimpse of Rhoda Scott's feet, but I think she was kicking bass through that whole thing. I don't think I've heard of either of them before.

Wow. Thanks, Jim.
Although it seems unfair to have two players like that on the same stage where there are so many parts of the world where children have to go to bed without hearing any B3 at all ...

There's got to be a charity somewhere that we can contribute to. You know, one whose mission is to provide every child on earth with a shot of B3!

Then we could all become organ donors...

Jim, BD can play better walking bass with her left foot than a lot of two handed players. She is so incredible.

Ken, where do you get Eb? I get C root (unless the guitar I keep by my computer has gone a step-and-a-half sharp). You could look at it as Cm pentatonic, or as key of Bb, C-root Dorian mode. It's the same as Dennerlein was using in the first clip Jim posted. That's a keyboarders' favorite. But if I'm wrong, I'm open to getting educated.

Maybe cuz Cm is the relative minor of Eb?

Wow! These two play with great soul!

I saw Barbara Dennerlein at the Festival de Jazz de Montréal a few years ago. She was amazing!

Smoking! Awesome clip, Jim! One of my life's most memorable gigs was a B3 showdown between Joey Defrancisco and Jack McDuff. In reality, there was a pupil/mentor thing going on but they made a show out of making it a cutting contest. For me McDuff's soulful feel and perfect time won out over Joey's mid-boggling chops. This is even better than that memorable night. Barabara and Rhonda seem to be cooperating to lift the groove rather than competing. B3 playing doesn't get much better than this.

I saw BD play last night, here in Edinburgh, in a small club. About 40 in audience (it wasn't very well publicised) but she seemed happy.
Just her, drums and sax. Great gig! The band played very wll, despite having only met and rehearsed - briefly - that afternoon. I hadn't realised she actually takes bass solos on the pedals, with both feet: a hoot, and very skillful.
Actually, the whole gig was very skillful...and also very musical, with lots of cool dynamics and variety of grooves and tones.
A lot of fun, only £10 entry and a 20 minute walk away from my house! I wish more gigs were that good a combination of quality, price and convenience.
