Billy Easton New CD

Post by Bill Stafford »

This last week in November I was treated to a very nice experience. Billy Easton invited me to be one of his studio guests at Gene Breeden's Studio in Nashville. "WOW" is the only description of his playing that I can come up with so far.
I can tell you that the shade of Curley was in that studio. This was an exclusive C6 session. Billy selected songs as "Brazil",
"New York, New York", "Sukiyaki", (sp?), "Memories" and six more wonderful standards in that vein. Ending with "I'll See You In My Dreams".
For me, it was absolutely wonderful to watch Billy and hear the Curly influence. Three of the best days I have had in a long time.
Billy can tell you about the session and musicians that Gene Breeden selected. Top notch and none better. The session bass player was superb. Played a great sounding Euorpean upright bass made in one of the "...slovokia" countries.
Watch for this release and be well rewarded with a touch of class.
Thanks for the invite, Billy and the best to you in your efforts.

Bill....Thanks for all those kind words. It was a blast, and the CD/Tape should be available for sale shortly after the new year. Gene Breeden's studio was perfect for me, they treated me really nice, and provided top notch studio musicians for me. I am so proud of my first Nashville effort, and it was a pleasure to have you there as well. When the CD/tape is available I will post on the Forum where to get it. Thanks so much, and happy holidays to all.

Hey Billy, I wish I had known that you were going to Gene's studio. I have know Gene since I was 16 and you have seen me enough to know that was a few day ago. We both came from the same area along with Norm Hamlet whom also I've known longer that either of us would admit to. Gene has a great savvy on how to make good recordings and you made a fine choice, Gary.

As a post script concerning Gene Breeden. He is one of the first, if not the first and only independent that Ken Nelson of Capitol allowed to produce a label record when Red Simpson insisted that it be done in Gene's studio when he was in Washington state on Red's "Hello, I'm A Truck" album, Gary

I was fortunate to be able to visit with Bill Easton and Bill Stafford at Gene Breeden's Studio's while Bill E. recorded his album and I agree with Bill S. "The Tape Don't lie," Bill E. has recorded a super CD with selections that are bound to be favorites for anyone interested in Steel Guitar Music! As for Gene Breeden Studio's, it goes without saying the quality that comes out of Gene's studio is a direct reflection of Gene's ability and knowledge from many years of recording the steel guitar, Thus his much earned award from the annual “St. Louis Steel Guitar Convention 2001” for Achievement Earned in recording and capturing the sound of the Steel Guitar through the years!

Hi Guys....
I am so humbled to hear these words from you great players. The studio experience was good, and I got to meet John Heinrich while I was there. Gene indeed is a super person, with a vast amount of musical/recording knowhow. Gary, you are right on target with your assessment of Gene and his work. I highly recommend Gene Breeden's studio to anyone who has the desire to record in Nashville. He made me feel like I was "one of the boys", and I will be eternally greatful for that. Thanks Gene, and all the guys at your studio. And thanks to Bill Stafford for introducing me to Gene.
