Dobro Cone Specs

Post by Eldon Cangas »

Can someone tell me the diameter, height and thickness of a standard dobro cone. I spun one on my lathe this afternoon 8inches diam about 2inches high and .012inches in thickness. It's my first step in building as acoustic steel. Thanks! Eldon

that's cool, but one would think you'd check the dimensions 'before' you spun the new one !?

Chris,
I never get things right the first time besides I like the learning as you go approach.

The old standard was 10 1/2" for spider-bridge cones. But the better modern cones made by Quarterman and Beard are slightly larger (click here).

No Eldon, you're not done yet. This isn't about dimensions, but about "the next big thing" (in as far as things can be "big" in the esoteric world of resonator guitars). Check out the new Beard Odyssey in the link below. And as you scroll over the guitar, take a gander at the new highly polished cone which was designed by Paul Beard. The latest and greatest!
