Songs that Grate on your Nerves!!!

Post by Doug Beaumier »

You know the songs I'm referring to. Annoying songs that drone on endlessly, but were big hits for some odd reason. The 1970s were full of such songs, in my opinion. Song like: Feelings, You Light Up My Life, The Rose, All By Myself, etc. Country Music had it's share of annoying songs too... like Achy Breaky Heart and some of the country "line dance mixes" from a few years ago. What songs drive You up a wall?

Yeah, it's bland '70s soft rock for sure... but I do like Karen Carpenter's voice a lot. She could "sing the phone book" and it would sound sexy to me! ;-)

The absolute worst song I've heard in years is Pretty Amazing Grace by Neil Diamond. I HATE this song, it joins an exclusive list of maybe 5 songs that I hate. JP

I could fill up b0b's hard drive with this stuff. But, "Amanda" really does it for me.....and most of those 1,4,5 Chuck Berry type rock and roll boogie woogie songs that all sound alike. That "If I Could Ye, Would Ye, Be My Baby Tonight" (whatever the words are... and any good country ballad that is played too fast.

I agree with Charles about "The Dance".

And last but not least: "Good Ole Butter Beans"

"I Am, I Said" by Neil Diamond is another uninteresting drone song that grates on my nerves.

There are two types that bug me: the slow monotonous songs with uninteresting vocals, and the more driving, simplistic formula songs, which are also monotonous. Now let me tell you how I Really feel!

I hate songs that have some stupid riff that goes on and on, over and over again, like "Cocaine" and "Sweet Home Alabama". Not to diss cocaine or Clapton  , I just don't like that particular song. And oh yeah, "I Don't Think Hank Done It This Way" is even worse. That's not even a riff, just 2 chords over and over...

Maroucha Carey and Whiney Houston(problem). Why sing four notes, when seventeen thousand will do!

In the "drone on endlessly" category I would have to nominate "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".
I wasn't sure whether to mention it in this thread, or in the "vocalist sit-in disaster" thread... either one would do !
