Southern Gospel = Good Music!

Post by Doug Earnest »

For the last couple of weeks I have been working a bit south of Augusta GA. Scanning through the local FM radio stations I found 102.7, which is a Southern Gospel station. They play a nice variety of sounds in the gospel vein.

Wow, there are some great pickers recording this type of music and the vocals are just fantastic from males, females and of course groups! :D

Maybe it helps that they have good subject matter that they can relate to in their songs.....that's another subject I guess..but at any rate I'm certainly enjoying it.

It's a refreshing change from the commercial country stuff played on FM today, that's for sure. I have heard everything from contemporary sounds to really fine bluegrass to things with a Waylon sound and lots of stuff in between.

Check it out, it might make you smile!

Even the very soulful black southern gospel? Not 'country', but it's lively and has a good beat to it.

Southern Gospel

Post by Reggie Duncan »

Since you mentioned it, Southern Gospel is more country than today's country music. I have enjoyed
making my living playing and producing southern gospel. I love it!

Good question. In our music, you always need a man that sings like a woman! I work with The Providentials Quartet as their sound man. I also produced the soundtrax they use live. It has been quite a deal, and the bus rides to and from 100+ dates a year, are very encouraging times for all of the guys. Their MySpace site is: http://www.myspace.com/theprovidentialsquartet
Clips from the new album are posted their.
