Chet & Jethro ... Sigh

Man, what musicianship! They make playing a simple, embellished version of a melody seem like genius. It's so difficult to pull off and they make it seem so effortless, like a Sunday stroll in the park. Both gone but not forgotten!

They used to room together at a YMCA in Cincinatti in the 40s. They played together for a lot of years and it shows.

So much to appreciate in both of them. Atkins....the greatest finger picker...listen how he makes the melody sing and sustain while playing the thumb thing. Nobody can do that like him...close, but no cigar. Jethro, great improvisor!!

Thanks for posting this. Brings back a lot of memories of me when I was a kid sitting in front of an old RCA stereo console playing Atkins records over and over trying to figure out some of his stuff.

The fact they married sisters and became brothers-in-law didn't hurt a bit either.

I loved Homer & Jethro as a kid and appreciate them so much more now. Great players and witty improvisors. A trip to youtube is necessary.
