Wayne Hancock

Post by Delvin Morgan »

Anybody heard of this fellow? He is coming to MPLS in Oct. His web site has samples that sound pretty good. He tours with a steel player, by the name of Tony Locke. I might go see him. He'll be at Lee's Liquor Lounge, Oct 24th.

Did I mention, Wayne (the train) Hancock is a Texas boy?

With or without a steeler 'The Train' is worthy of your $ and time.
Throw forumite Anthony Locke in the mix, and you've got yourself a fun night, even without 1 too many beers.

Saw Wayne a few years ago and He was great.
His steel player was a youngish tall college type,He played a Ricky non pedal. As He was tuning up it became obviuos that his volume pedal had stopped working,He just removed it and hooked his little finger around the volume knob and played some superb stuff.Never did get His name.
Yes,go and see Wayne.
Best regards
Billy

I concur - go see him. The real deal in every respect, Classic Country Music with a capital "C". The steel is non-pedal and has been great every time I've seen him. He brings Hank to mind, but is no copycat.

Billy, i'd bet that the steel player you saw was the great Jeremy Wakefield.

That'll be a fun show at a fun bar. I played there a couple of times with the Hoyle Brothers. I saw Wayne a few months ago with Tony playing steel. He sounded great!

Incidentally, Dave Biller is on guitar on at least one Wayne Hancock album (A-Town Blues) along with Wakefield, so he knows whereof he speaks. He's a great guitar player, and they're a great team--they've recorded together as "The Hot Guitars of Biller and Wakefield". Great stuff.

On Wayne's last recording he was referring to the steel player as, "Mr. Rivers." He knows how to pick 'em.

Huge fan of Wakefield ...AND Dave Biller on guitar.
I guess that Hancock guy is alright too

Unfortunately when I saw him here in Seattle he had NO steel player and the opening band played for 1.5 hours, i kid you not. :x

Is Liquor Lees the one with the "meat raffle" and the two for one happy hour with free pickled herring, chicken wangs and government cheese? or was that Liquor Lyles? Its been a few years for me since i was up there....cool city, cool bars.
