Uakti

Post by b0b »

Back in the 90s I bought a few CDs by a band named Uakti. They played acoustic instrumental music on tuned percussion and flutes. No strings. I think they were Brazilian, but I'm not sure. Real nice music - very inventive.

Any other Uakti fans here?

b0b, you mean this band?

Never heard of 'em before you mentioned 'em, but with my obscure tastes in music, I'd probably enjoy their tunes. (I've been known to awaken in the morning to the strains of Tuvan throat signing, on my CD player) 8)

Keep on pickin'!

Yes, that's them. The Wikipedia page tells more about them than I ever knew. I just know that I like their music - always have. It's unusual, but it's not weird or anything. Just a bit exotic sounding.

b0b,

The Fine Arts Library, here on the Univ. of Texas campus, has Aguas da amazonia, music composed by Philip Glass and performed by Uakti. Recorded Dec. 1993, at Polifonia Studios, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Is this one of the recordings that you have? If so, do you recommend it as a good representation of the band?

Have a great day and...

Keep on pickin'!

No, I've been meaning to get that. I have Mapa and I Ching.

I'm very disappointed with the sound quality on most YouTube clips, but this one has demonstrations of some of their instruments and a good song performance starting at about 5:12
