Help with PA Speaker Purchase

In the market for a pair of small portable PA speakers. These will be used for a 4 piece band playing country, old rock and blues type songs in small bars and parties. We will probably never mike all the instruments, just vocals, maybe kick drum. Anyone have any recommendations? We have been looking at Peavey PR15’s or maybe even the PR12’s. Any experience with these? Thanks for any and all input.

Hi Kenny, met you at Wally Davis's house.You played my Emmons. If you know Tom Laquet give him a call. They use 2 different types of Peavey speakers like you are inquiring about. If you don't know Tom call me or email and I will give you his number. i am sure he would be happy to talk/demo his PA. They sound great and have quite a bit of punch.

Kenny, sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I believe that for your application the Peavey neo PR15's would work well since you will mic the kick drum. These sound great and they are lightweight. Of course you would need the speaker stands as well to get them off of the floor. The item numbers for the new PR15 cabinet is 00583910 and the tripod speaker stand is #00062660. Here is a link to these items off of the Peavey website;

I'm partial to the QSC powered speakers, specifically the one with the 12" speaker, HPR122i. It has a conical horn that disperses the highs really well. There is actually two amps inside - one for the horn and another for the 12" speaker. They can be stand mounted vertically or layed on the ground as a monitor - they have a slanted surface for this. A couple of these and and a small Mackie non-powered board and you have a really simple setup. I've never heard better sound quality for short throw (small club) distances. The aren't excessibely heavey either. They only downside is price ~ $800.00 each

I'm absoutely pleased and impressed with my pair of powered FBT 12" 2-way speakers. Lightweight, super clear and loud, extremely high quality. Contact TC Furlong, Inc. as they are a dealer for these.

FBT Maxx 4A is the 12" version.

We're running the QSC 15's with horn/power amps built in........the self contained makes for an easy setup! We run a 5 monitors driven by two racked power amps also, this requires just a bit more set up though but not a big deal $:\$
I also have a small box/club mixer with two Peavey
SP 5G's that work great!

I just got in from the first gig with my new PR 12's and they are great. We were running two acoustic guitars two vocals and dobro. I would of coarse take Mike Brown's advice on the 15's for kick drum. The PR speakers sound great and are incredibly light.
