Debashish Bhattacharya in L.A.

Post by Mark Switzer »

I don`t post often but I having just returned from his concert in Pasadena, I just wanted to say a few words about this incredible musician.
Having see him once before, I was aware that his technique allows him to play things that seem impossible: an almost infinite number of notes on one pick stroke, wide interval jumps on the same string at lightning speed, cascades of hammer-on-pulloffs, some without picking at all, and much more. After a few minutes, however, I could mostly forget about chops and focus on his depth of epression and the passion and joy in music-making that flowed from the stage. Simply some of the most beautiful music I`ve heard in a long time.
I urge anyone with a open mind to make an effort to hear this master performer.
Thanks for reading.

I would have enjoyed hearing that. Sorry I missed him. Was that the only SoCal concert?

Yes, that was his only So Cal appearance. His schedule is here:
http://www.debashishbhattacharya.com/tours_01.htm

He has a date in Sacramento tonight (Oct 29th), two dates in Honolulu and one in Milpitas (SF Bay Area) on Nov 11th. Milpitas details are here:
http://www.basantbahar.org/

Milpitas tickets are only available at the door but you can reserve a seat through the website. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Gary Anwyl on 29 October 2006 at 03:11 PM.]</p></FONT>

I can only amplify what Mark has stated ... this man is a genius on his instrument. You may or may not care for the music of India, (it will grow on you), but there is no denying his musical prowness on the steel guitar...truly an amazing sight to behold! I had the great pleasure of meeting him and the other performers back stage. Debashish is a very humble person, a joy to meet.
