Eddy Arnold Dies

Post by Tom Campbell »

Surprised no one posted the news that Eddy Arnold died this morning. He was 89, a few days short of turning 90. Wasn't "Little" Roy Wiggins his long time steel player? Another major artist passes and time marches on.

Tom,it was reported this morning in the Family section,In my opinion Little Roy WAS the Arnold sound in the early days, until Eddy went after the pop cross over sound,My favorite recordings of his was the EARLY stuff.DYKBC.

Sad news. I remember my mom listening to Eddie Arnold when I was just a little kid, and since I consider her to have influenced me greatly in getting into Country music, I guess in a roundabout way you could say he was an influence. He was certainly one of the greats.

He and Hank Snow were the first two Country singers I can remember hearing. Eddy's radio show was listened to faithfully in our house. Little Roy was my first steel hero. RIP to both Eddy and Roy!

EDDY ARNOLD was the primary reason I went for steel guitar and country music.

YES, it was "Little Ivan" that was the sound of EDDY ARNOLD and I enjoyed each and every release they did together. I have most of his early 78's.

Definitely another cog in history that is now lost forever. The new comers to steel guitar with so many source of music will never know HOW MUCH we struggled to learn the instrument via the likes of Eddy Arnold and Roy Wiggens.

Speaking of Eddy Arnold, I swear his was the first version of "Born to Lose" I ever remember hearing, but after doing a google search the only album I can find it on is "Lonely People", which doesn't seem to be available on CD! Anyone know where I can get a digital copy of this song?

Probably one of my earliest musical influences, too. We had the Cattle Call LP at the house, so I about wore that thing out learning all those cowboy songs.
