Gordon Lightfoot Current Tour - Live Video

Post by Joey Ace »

Gordon Lightfoot is now on tour. (No Steel, as has been the case for several decades)

He's almost 70, and recovered from a life threating illness just a few years ago.

Still, he's loved as a national treasure, and for the great legacy of songs he has given us.

Gord performed in my town last night and the local newspaper has put a few minutes of video on line.

Thanks Joey, That was great, I have his box set and other albums which are all great. His voice actually sounded good considering all the things he's been through.

He got mediocre reviews last time he was here, but from that clip , I would go see him again. Last time was in the early 80's with Pee Wee.
Regards, Craig

I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.

Today is tomorrow's Good ol' days

My thanks, too, Joey. I've been a Gordon Lightfoot fan for years, and you're right about his legacy. A look at his websight "Lightfoot!" shows just how prolific and insightful a writer he is, perhaps even on a par with poets such as Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson.

I've always thought it unfortunate and sad that steel disappeared from the picture (although I understand Pee Wee Charles still sits in on occasion). It's always seemed to me a perfectly natural voice for so many of his songs and complement of his longtime group.

Pee Wee Charles (aka my pal Ed Ringwald) left the Lightfoot band at their peak (Lear Jet Tours!) because his young family was more important to him.

Gord told him he wouldn't use another Steeler.

In addition to a day job, Ed still plays big local events and is a well respected Studio Musician.

If I had to choose, my musical world would be complete with Mozart, Ray Price, and Lightfoot.

We saw him here a year or two ago, and it was a real thrill to see him walk out on stage after all he has been through. I still remember that when I was in Grade 8 an english teacher played "Steel Rail Blues" for us (I think in the context of talking about poetry or something) and I was blown away. Not much that I remember from junior high school, but that I will never forget. And seeing him when I was in about grade 11 in Victoria - another great memory. And I know I saw him at Massey Hall when Peewee was still with him - must have been '80 or '81. Someone told me that Bob McDill once said something the effect of "I ain't written an 'Early Morning Rain' yet..". Gord's best songs are in a class of their own, and I truly believe they changed my life. Thanks Gord, and thanks Joey for posting this.
