I have used the SiteAdvisor since day one. Do you have the latest version? Older versions may cease functioning.

The current version, as of a week ago, is: version 26.6 build 6256. The latest version is available here, from McAfee

BTW: SiteAdvisor, from McAfee, is available as a toolbar, or statusbar plug-in, for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Once the DDoS is over you should download the latest version. It will protect you against visiting many already identified hostile websites.
