THE GRAMMIES
They've been pretty good so far!
Alicia Keys sounded great singing with Sinatra.
Aretha sounded great. Foo Fighters rocked. Kid Rock and Keely Smith, wow!
Brad Paisley totally ripped and the steel guitar was pretty much the only thing in the mix besides bass and drums, and he has a big band behind him.
I wonder how long Randle Currie had to set up his rig?
Like, five minutes? Wow, talk about pressure!

There's a steel guitar in this fight!
Bobby Ingano is gunning for his 2nd straight Grammy in the - Hawaiian Album of the Year - catagory, with his killer steel take of 'Wailana' on the - Treasures of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar CD.

I didn't see much of it, but I caught the Kid Rock / Keely Smith number. Kid Rock came in a bar too early or too late, I couldn't tell which, and the whole thing seemed headed for a train wreck until the bandleader got it flipped around after about 8 bars. Good thing it wasn't a canned backup track!
I don't think most people noticed.

and one with extra soap too.
She is unique and quit entertaining,
in a talented trainwreck sort of way.
I LOVED the look on her face when she won.
Flabergasted, amazed, uncomprehending
all passed across her eyes.
Then she pretty much broke down.
LOVED the piano player tribute to Oscar Peterson,
should have been MUCH longer.
Herbie Hankock loved it too.
I got interrupted BADLY on telephone during
Rhapsody in Blue on band business I did want to hear.
I WAS very pissed.

.
Funny but true. So scary, and yet kinda sassy.
She truly is a trainwreck. But MAN! what a great voice she has. I hope she can get her act together, but I get the feeling she's not going to be around for long.

Yeah Vince had a GREAT classic line!
Amy doesn't have more tattoos than many
ladies around these parts,
so that wasn't the scary part...
She's a piece of work for sure.
Totally original;
yet with a new and quite warped take
on historically retro music
and so few performing artists
today can be called that!

WOW, Webb I missed that.
I was only tuned in for a bit.
That is WAY cool.
Herbie has been a front runner for so long.
Trad yet modern at the same time.
Class act finally truely recognized.
YES, great night for jazz.

Congrats to Levon Helm and Steve Earle (sure, flame on
) for their Grammy wins in the Best Traditional Folk Album and Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album categories, respectively.
PSG trivia: Peter Case's album "Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John" which was nominated and "lost" to Levon, features Norm Hamlet on a cut.

Actually I was thinking Lysol disinfectant.Tha would be both a cold shower
and one with extra soap too.
Where I come from she's Gong Show material.I liked the backing music and thought it was kinda 60s Memphis retro but couldn't fathom the mumbled lyrics, atonal drone and wasn't necessarily swept up with her junkie skank persona.
I'd have to say way over half the acts sang flat, had amateur presentations, needed to get over themselves and get outa town or were otherwise not ready for prime-time.
And how about "Feist" w/her out of tune whining and out of tune guitar. I kept waiting for the camera to pan over to Simon Cowell for one of his disgusted looks.
It's sad to see what people are settling for these days.

Grammies
Jerry G. I really thopught Keely saved that song.
john M. I really cracked up when I heard Vince's line to Kanye. Vince seems like a real nice guy with a razor sharp wit.
Speaking of singers singing flat: How can Foggerty, Little Richard and Jerry Lee STILL sing that high? (I did notice Little Richard sing a lower line on the chorus of Good Golly, Miss Molly.) Wayne Newton said he lowered his keys because as he got older, it was exhausting to sing that high. I think it was a different reason, but hey, what do I know?

Just saw a replay of Amy Winehouse.
And also her talking after the award.
She is doing an excellent job of hiding a
London Fog thick 'Camdentown scouse' accent
when she sings. And having worked with a few
singers from those parts it ain't so easy.
Michael, I looked for mumbles and monotonality.
Nah, some of the words are pronounced oddly a bit,
but that is from where she's from.
And some of the lyric references are squarely
working class English and lost on most Yanks.
Of course when she talks you think
Posh Spice/Victoria Beckham... Double YIKES.
But as she says no doubt she is 'trouble' on the hoof.
But the Grammy's love a heart on their sleave singer.
Funny behind it all she comes off a little SHY of all things.
I hope the new found fame doesn't cause a
Britany / Peter Green meltdown.
She seems more fragile by far.

I think this is true, but then again I also think that the following statement is even MORE accurate:I like Amy Winehouse, but I suspect that her winning all of those awards was Grammy politics.
I like (insert name of winner) but I suspect that (his/her/their) winning all of those awards was Grammy politics.
