Buck's Capitol recording " I Don't Care" ??

Don's Telecaster is as twangy as it gets. In the live and televised performances, the tone sounds different?? The same thing on "Sam's Place" What did he do differently on the recordings tom get the heavier sound?? Thanks.

To be honest, probably nothing. The speed of the video tape is probably a lot slower and not as acurate as Digital, and the older tape machines were not as clear and clean as the newer ones, therefore it tends to muffle the sound.

Has it been documented that it was, in fact, Don who played on the recording? Didn't James Burton do some of the recordings?

Yes it has been documented that Don played on the session.Burton played on many of the west coast records,but Buck used his Buckaroos on all his stuff from pretty much the late 50's on.

I'd say most of the difference was due to the close-miking in the studio and simple EQ adjustments. I heard them live back then, and there was plenty of that "Tele treble twang"!

TV back then had lousy audio quality.

Burton played on next to no Buck Owens sessions.

the trick is this: '60's tele's would thin out when you turned the volume down(on the guitar itself) due to the cap in the circuit. it was designed to keep the treble strong when you turned the guitar volume down, but really the bass just drops out. it gets super twangy.
