Paging Jody Carver ...

Link to auction on eBay.

According to auction notes, The Custom's walnut finish was replaced by a "Dark" finish in '51.
I've never seen this Sunburst- like finish on early Fenders and never heard of the "custom dark finish" so I'm not convinced it's not a refinish. Jody, can you shed some light on this one? Not interested in buying just interested in truth.

If it is a re-finish it is one of the best from what I can see.

That is a nice steel. It will probably top out about $1800 or more.

That's a beauty for sure. I've seen that finish on the single and double neck models.

That seller has run this auction at least four times in the past several months. His reserve price is never met. The highest bid was about $1200.

Years ago, when LF found a piece of wood that had knot
markings etc,,he would then cover that piece of wood with a dark coat of stain to eliminate those that were not letter perfect or imperfections..This guitar (less case) is an original...serial number 9743 dated 8-21-52. I have the orginal Tweed Case in Mint..NFS condition..Under pan Tadeo 8) edited this is way cool and so was Tadeo... :D

That's a very nice looking steel, Jody.

"...when LF found a piece of wood that had knot

Would a knot not be effectively covered by the blond finish? Or did that come later?

Jamie..yes a knot or imperfection was able to be refinished at the factory prior to shipping..Only walnut that had a prefect grain and no imperfection were then shipped as walnut as you see in the photo of my Custom Steel...any further questions...let me know.

Thanx.. and Happy New Year to you and your family..
