Twin

Post by Jamie Danter »

Tom,

The black transformer is the power, silver is the output.

Around 1968, the "Silver Face" Twin had a "Drip Edge" i.e. frame around the speaker grille.

Master Volume was introduced around 1972.

Think the Pull Boost, on the Master knob, was added soon after the Master Volume debut.

Not sure when the cabinet was changed from solid pine to particle board.

On the particle board amps, the speaker baffle was glued into a channel on the cabinet.
The speaker frame was attached with velcro.

The speakers in my 1974 are Oxfords.

Hi Jamie,
I have a quarter inch aluminum flat strip framing the grill,no master volume, pine cabinet.I was wondering if the 67 contained in the numbers on both trannies and on the chassis was indicative of the year. Tom

Yours is a '68 at the earliest, that was the 1st year for the silverface control panel. If the transformers are dated '67 that sounds about right, as the trannies and usually the speakers predate the actual amplifier by a few months if not almost a year. Based on the '67 dated trannies, I would say it is in fact a '68, but tranny dates are only a piece of the puzzle.

Here is some more information you might find useful about your amp, scroll down on the menu on the left and pick out "silverface twin reverb":
