E9 and C6 "open" strings are in what octave range?

Instruments, mechanical issues, copedents, techniques, etc.

E9 and C6 "open" strings are in what octave range?

Post by Kristen Bruno »

Does anyone know the octave ranges of the open strings in basic C6 and E9 tuning with respect to "middle C" on the piano?
I think they are all higher than middle C but am not sure which octave ranges they are. I read somewhere that middle c is about 32 hz.

Thanks

On the E9 neck middle C is on the first fret of the 5th string.
On the C neck middle C is the open 3rd string.

You should be able to figure it out from there.

Keep in mind that middle C is C4.

E9

1 F# 4
2 D# 4
3 G# 4
4 E 4
5 B 3 C on the first fret is C4
6 G# 3
7 F# 3
8 E 3
9 D 3
10 B 2

C6

1 D 4 or G4
2 E 4
3 C 4 middle C
4 A 3
5 G 3
6 E 3
7 C 3
8 A 2
9 F 2
10 C 2

I hope this is what you were asking.

I read somewhere that middle c is about 32 hz.
Kristen,

Where ever did you read that, I am curious?

Middle C is 262 Hz (more precisely 261.6255).

32 Hz would be pretty near the far left end of a Piano.

Yes you are right. I think I found "C1" thinking it was the middle c on piano. And C1 is close to 32 hz. Actually, I thought the number 32 was odd myself because I also read (someplace else) that "A" above middle c was 440 hz, which was WAY highter than the 32 hz given for C , so it didn't seem to make any sense. Thanks for clearing things up!

Right, on a typical D-10 pedal steel the highest open note is A=440Hz and the lowest is A=55Hz.
