Supro string nut

Post by Charley Wilder »

Does anybody sell string nuts that would fit a Supro Studio model? I mean completely ready to glue on. Mine is too high. (1/2" over the fingerboard.)If I tune it in "E" it actually leans forward a bit and also won't work with my capo. I'd like one a minimum of a 1/4" over the board but not much more.
Thanks,
Charley

Hi Charley, I don't know of anyone that does a Supro nut ready made, might be a hard part to find.
But, you should be able to find a local luthier to cut you a new one fairly easily.
Then you can have it setup exactly as you like.

Thanks Tom. I was just giving it a shot because it's a fairly well known brand and thought somebody just might make them. I'll take your suggestion and maybe get a couple of them made up.

Why not file?

Why not just file it down and recut the string grooves?

Not for me, I either booger something up removing it or get the bottom uneven trying to shorten it. I prefer working from the top, maybe even changing the string spacing or correcting not so good string spacing.

Cutting it down was my first thought but in trying VERY carefully to pop it off I find that it isn't going to come off easily and I'm afraid I'm going to have to destroy it to get it loose. Is there anything safe I can use to soak it with to loosen it up??
Thanks, Charley

Thanks Jude. Very helpful. I was trying to pop it off the wrong way. I need to get a blank just in case I do mess this one up and I'll give it a try.
