Exterior Wheels For Pedal Steel Case From TCH Company

Post by steve takacs »

With help from a Forum member, Jon Light, here is what I used on my Williams case and it works just fine. Maybe the size is a bit bigger than need be, but the case now looks like a 1950s auto with skirts around the tires. Very sturdy and the wheels roll easily. Cost: $ 26 steve t

Here is the part number and address to the site for cost:

3" Caster/Corner - Exterior Mount
Rigid caster with grey performa tire.
511-2294800 Zinc

Hey--that's great. Glad it worked out. Ironically, my own wheel project involved hacking up a $12 cheap aluminum handcart for the wheels and a piece of the handle, rigging some hardware store L brackets to accommodate a long threaded axle and attaching it all to my Carter case. Looks like hell but it survived several years of NYC sidewalks. I love the look of these wheels you used. But wasn't there a large minimum order from these guys---wasn't that what that David Biggers was involved with? Or did you get these thru him?

I just checked the website and there is a $50 minimum order required. You guys might want to combine an order. That's what David Biggers did.

Better yet, maybe one of our fine retailers could see about stocking them for us. :D
Best regards,
Mike

Jon, thanks again for pointing me in the directions of the TCH company. I bought these directly through TCH and did forget there was a minumum order. Purchased three sets of wheels and plan to put two of those on my other steel cases. If anyone needs one set, I'd try David Biggers.

Tamara, I will get some photos up by next week , so you can see for yourself. As mentioned, they probably could be smaller, perhaps by half, but my back is not complaining one bit. They do look pretty flash.

One last thing, TCH company was lightning quick in sending them. steve t

I have a similar set of wheels installed on my keyboard road case. This picture shows one corner (rear case).

Mine appear to be more recessed than the ones in your diagram. Anything that isn't recessed is in danger of being broken off.

A handle on the opposite end is needed to effectively use the wheels.

NORMAL USE...NO PROBLEM

Post by steve takacs »

Joey, I guess if you took a hammer and started to wack away at the wheel unit, it would come off. With normal use though, I believe it will stay put. Five bolts hold the thing onto the case & the housing protects the wheel. If you can get a case with recessed wheels it probably would be best, but I feel it'd work for most players, it would be easier to fit onto an existing case. Of course, if you were to be travelling a lot using the airlines that would the akin to wacking away at the wheels with a hammer. steve t
