Don Helms amps?

What would be Don Helms amp preferences with the Gibson?

At the 2007 "Tri State Steel Guitar Show" in Washington, PA he played a small Peavey amp, used a Hilton volume pedal and that old red guitar sounded like a million bucks.

And, FWIW, it looked like a Shubb-style dobro bar, not a bullet-shape. And, he didn't use any slants.

A couple of years ago, Don was a special guest on David Churches road shows out west when I played with David. Don always used a NV112 and a stomp box delay & sounded so smooooooth

On the shows I have worked With Don the past year or so, Don used a NV112. He didn't use any kind of stomp box, just the onboard reverb. On the CD I produced with he and Chris Malpass, he used the same amp in the studio. We cut the reverb back in order to get the early pre reverb sound.

When Don and (Bob Saxton), Patsy Clines guitar player,,did some shows with us, it was Bob who had the stomp box & Don ran straight out of the NV112.
I remember when Bob Saxton would play MR Sandman with stomp box delay & the NV112 WOW!!

I'm pretty sure it was a Fender TV Front Pro w/Hank.

Don told me he bought a 1948 Fender Pro Amp ("TV" version, with 15" Jensen) when he moved to Nashville to join Hank Williams in 1949. He said he used that amp for all his recordings and performances from that time on, until it was stolen in the early 1960's when he was playing with the Wilburn Brothers. He really would like to have that amp back.

Sometime prior to the time it was stolen, Leo Fender had it recovered for him.

He used a Fender Vibroverb after that time, but has since sold it.

He really enjoys the sound he gets out of his Peaavey Nashville 112.
