Most newspapers in Holland tell about the Dolly-Parton Concert:
It was a playbackshow, at least the biggest part of it. They also mention that Dolly admitted that there is a lot of playback, but that it takes the show to a higher level....
I was not there, and I simply can not believe this, who is backing her up on steel from us forumites and maybe, (if not forbidden to speak about it) can expain what is happening on stage? I know a lot of artist use protools-like sequenses with vocals , percussion and orchestral things that are very hard to realise live, but paying 500 euro's for a ticket on the black market to see a plastic-show beats it for me. Please tell me I'm wrong, which I hope. Thanks

Dolly's been doing that for many years. A band that I played with performed at a multi day, multi artist show and the second day we were there, Dolly was to perform that night. She brought her own monitor rig in and in some of the rigs were ADATs and AKAI 4 track recorders that they were using to "enhance" the show. This happened in 193 or 1994.
I was at the concert and I don't believe Dolly lip-synced.
There was actually 1 reporter claiming this to be the case, he wrote that he was standing against the stage so he could see it well. Actually, it was impossible to come so near to the stage. I know some press reporters were angry that they had to stand in the back. Maybe he was also p****d off. He valuates his statement by the fact that Dolly used some pre-recorded material in the past, but then she let the audience know. The tour management has officially declared the she sang live, and anyhow, it was a fantastic concert. No steel guitar, but her voice goes on in my mind.
That said, I would never buy tickets on the black market.
Dolly has her stuff "in the can" just in case... if she has a bad throat or something, she doesn't want folks to have to "suffer through" a "bad" performance...

Music hath the charm to soothe a savage beast, but I'd try a 10mm first.
I was at the first show on her Europe Tour. And there were no playback. She had some great pickers along - Jimmy Mattingly on fiddle is the one I remember - but no steelguitar.
I heard about that concert from my pop.He told me that it was sold out in 10minutes.Dolly is very popular in Europe and she knows it to.Does that give her the right to partially fake the show?I think not.
No don't get me wrong 'cause I was not there to witness this event but my opinion is that when ever she does something like that she should tell the people before she starts that parts of the show are enhanced for technical reasons and to give the audience a better performance.
I have seen "Dire Straits for example that had a huge tour across the world some years ago.There was no sinc or running tapes or what so ever.That separates the good ones from the bad.
How ever.......if Dolly thinks that she needs additional equipment she should tell the people that payed up to 100dollars or 500dollars on the black-market.Which is forbidden by the way.
If she is touring with a bluegrass band,
and still has to do some of the 9 to 5 stuff,
maybe it is best to let that be partly canned,
and not truck a bunch of electric things around
for 2-3 songs out of a mostly acoustic set.
I haven't seen the show, so can't speak authoritatively.
But will note she has had 3 different careers essentially,
and each a pretty darned different instrumentation.
Even for someone of the level of Dolly that would make
for a 20-30 person band to haul around getting
ALL the players, even if several double.
Pretty high ticket prices to do that.
DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!
