Last of the Breed Concert - Opry House 3/19
I was fortunate enough to have a great seat for the Last of the Breed concert at the Opry House tonight, with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, and Asleep at the Wheel. This must have been the kickoff for the tour as the album release date is tomorrow. Can't say enough good things about it. Sure, the sound was a little rough at times, and not enough steel in the mix, but it was still a great show IMHO.
I don't think there will be too many opportunities to see Willie and Merle sing Pancho and Lefty together, as they did tonight. And similarly Ray sing Nightlife with Willie and Merle doing backup on guitar. There were many other high points.
I'm amazed at Ray Price. At 81, still able to sound great. I must have had a wide smile walking out during the break after his set. The lady usher in the back of the opry house looked at me and cracked me up when she said, "Not bad for 81, huh? And he didn't even need to sing through a computer to be on pitch!" Pretty much nailed it on the head.

The last of the breed
I just purchased this double CD at Chapters I am totally blown away. It's subtle, laid back and oh so soulful. Buddy is just too tasty for words and the combined soulfulness of Ray, Merle and Willie, along with great material, is so much more than the sum of it's parts. Everyone owes it to themselves to buy this double CD.
