Egos And Ids En Masse

Post by Bill Hankey »

Inflated egos have a distinct toppling effect, caused by an extreme energy output of one's own interests. The id responds to the impulses of the ego. It isn't hard to imagine, that somewhere, or somehow, the steel guitar becomes involved, albeit one's rationale would not normally condone such a thinking process. Considering the possible expansion of the egos in relation to steel guitar development, and the need to eliminate the negative effect, is as important, as realizing that "touch and tone" signify who's who in the world of steel guitar.

Indubitably!
Bill Hankey wrote:... the steel guitar becomes involved, albeit one's rationale would not normally condone such a thinking process.
I would think that the ego responds to the impulses of the id, assuming that the id is the less superficial of the two.

Whatever. My ego told me that I would be able to pick up pedal steel in no time at all. Measured against geological or cosmological time, that may be true; but as a practical matter, my ego lied.

To paraphrase Ram Dass: "... we discover that we're just pushing our puny little egos around."

Donny H.,

Sagest of the informed, including yourself, can easily interpret that no hidden messages exist in this thread. Masters of "touch and tone" may very well sanction the logic of not getting carried away by an ego development.

I think you need to get a pet Bill, to help take your troubled mind off steel for awhile, A pet would bring joy to your heart, a dog, a cat or a hampster, only then would your pendulm start to swing upwards!

Bill H. Would you say you have a ego problem with your use of the English language? You know we are not all smart, like the cave man on that TV. ad. And a lot of steelers with a big ego have a hard time finding a band that will have them work with them, and some are real good players. Joe

The id urges the steel guitarist to practice. The superego objects, while the ego standing between the unconscious, (id) and the conscience or voice within, (superego) strives to satisfy the id. A strict superego can create a problem for the ego. These pleasure principles of the id differ from person to person, and steady routine practice sessions suggest a healthy psychic structure.

Bill I heard this same short seminar in Haight Ashbury in the 60's. Only difference is that I understood it then because it came with a few puffs of smoke.

The marvelous ability to think things out; that is, the mind power to resolve complex issues is a special gift. Developing expertise while studying the steel guitar, is generally what most players naturally strive to achieve. Learning new shortcuts, omitting erroneous procedures, observing at close range, accomplished steel guitarists, will from a practical standpoint, get you there in a shorter period of time. If nothing else, at least you'll be entering the driving force of experimentation.

Does anyone remember the "Deacon" in the Pogo comic strip of whom other cast members would say "man, he sure do talk pretty"?

This is a Western Mass disease...my family had it...too close to William's college.

Egos and ids en masse

Post by Bill Hankey »

Health activators waste no time by reciting that moderation is the key to success. To wit, exercising, eating, watching television, talking on the 'phone, drinking, etc. It is reasonable to believe, that the majority of those responsive activators' interests, start and stop at the local bank. Sort of, "No time to fix the shingles, and no time to fix the floor" attitude that pervades outside the realm of steel guitar attentiveness. Take for example, the all too common officiousness of modern television programming, where attempts are made to "push" our minds back into the dark ages. I'll wager that not more than one or two in a hundred of those responsible for programming, have even a vague concept of the steel guitar, and how it is played. Of course not, they are working through the mainstream, where banking interests, real estate, new aotomobiles, and financial gains become ingrained as a daily routine. Perhaps you've seen the the likes of an exec. peering over a glass of champagne, at a party where you once played steel guitar. It's that slight condescending glance, as if to ask, am I missing something, attitude; that is representative to that scenario. The id should kick in at that point, and cut loose with both barrels on the steel guitar. I would rule against allowing anyone to gloss over a lifetime effort of
practice and achievement on the steel guitar.

Steve H.,

In this case, it's a person who may choose to go about activizing a plan to insure better health for others, while enjoying the rewards of monetary gain. I might add that the rules do change periodically, while adjusting to the latest information professed by various health care facilities.
