I seriously doubt the Chicks will be laying low. There have already been benefits, and they have always been upstarts anyway, having told just about anyone in the music business who tried to modify their sound to shove it, including MTV, VH-1, (both wanted fiddle, banjo, and steel free mixes. They didn't get them) and also their label, who opposed their artistic direction but buckled when a lawsuit threatened that they might have to open their books and reveal how much money they are stealing from their artists. The label let them go, and now they run the whole show themselves. Sales dipped for their latest CD, since they didn't have big label push behind it, but their earnings went up fivefold. (this despite the "contraversy' over the remarks, which doesn't appear to have much in the way of legs) They have a huge spotlight, a massive soapbox, and a monster audience that appears to agree with their politics. As was stated above, their tour was just about the only one that routinely sold out the big arenas this year. They outsold The Eagles in Denver, and it was much the same elsewhere. They still get airplay, they're still selling records, and they're still selling tickets.
Get used to it-they're gonna be around for a long time. And so will their politics.
