Cannot hear all the players on this site

Post by Colin Goss »

The site was written in Frontpage and is designed for all the Microshaft IE browsers - consequently the embed instruction is used which to my knowledge is a MS own code and not W3C compliant.

Consequently anyone not using IE cannot hear the music.

May I suggest that the pages are checked via http://validator.w3.org and amendments made. When I checked, there were eleven errors in the page coding.

Checking instructional pages - it says <EMBED> is not a part of the HTML 4 or xHTML 1 specifications

Why not have the mp3 file so that users can play it with their own choice of player - winamp etc

Thanks Charles! This is a great site, and I enjoyed listening to all of the different players and styles. We are always looking for new players for our Annual Marshfield Steel Guitar Show. THanks again.

GOD bless!

Great site!! Put it on my favorites list.

I enjoyed listening to the MP3s there.
Very nice to be able to hear a sample of so many fine players that you might not ever be able to hear otherwise. Lot's of ideas to learn from. The Billy Braddy cut of "It Had to Be You" was great. Nice tribute.

The Bobbe/Jimmy track is just plain beautiful - so much feel. Wonderful players at the top of their game.

Colin, thanks for the input. I am very fortunate to know enough of what I am doing here to get it done. I am not very computer savvy especially in changing things up. I do what I know how to do and will try other means if someone is willing to teach me how. I play a bit of steel guitar so that qualifies me to learn more in my lifetime :D

I wish everyone could hear the players but I have had ONLY 4 or5 email me telling me they can't hear the songs. Thay's not too bad out of over 300 visitors to the site.

Wishing you the best.

Jim Cohen,,,,, I never tried Firefox but I hear it is good. Gues i will if you use it.

What an excellent way for other steel players to hear each other and learn. There are so many great players out there that will never play in Nashville. But they need to be heard. Then there are the ones who have played in Nashville and should still be heard. One such player is Danny Hullihen. He's one in a million as far as I'm concerned.Hope you'll forgive my plug Dan but I hope you submit some tunes for everyone else to enjoy.

Loved Jim Harper's Southern Okie Stomp,Reminds me of the sounds you could hear on the radio in the 40's and 50's that caught my attention to the steel guitar, was just a kid and really did'nt know what was making that beautiful sound, but WAS sure I wanted to do it some day.Way to go Jim.

We are approaching 5000 visitors and this site is just about 45 days old.

Thanks to all of you who have submitted songs for the site and thanks to b0b for allowing this to be an avenue for such a project. Some 65 players are now being showcased on the site and more come every day.

I sure wish more of you great Hawaiian players would get on here. After all, that is where we all started isn't it?

Has something been changed? A couple of days ago I could listen to the sound clips, and now I can't--I get a notification that Apple QuickTime Plug-In is required. Months ago I uninstalled QT per Wiz's recommendation, and installed QT Alternative in its place. (I use Firefox).

5000 visitors

Post by Charles Tilley »

On January 14th. this year, I posted about a new web site I was starting to feature steel guitar players from all over the world. Since that time, there have been 5000 hits from visitors to the site. I think this is phenominal. By the way, the first posting is at http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=101053

Thanks to all who sent files and to all who visited and heard the variety of styles and players on the site. It is still growing and visitors keep coming.
It would be a great place to let folks know where teachers are. I have had requests for teacher location. If you are a teacher, email me with the information. PLEASE NOTE:::::: There must be a song posted of your playing to get a teacher posting.

Hi Tilley-I think your program is just terrific for steel players on the Forum to post a song and I can see already it is becoming very successful, thanks to you and your hard work in setting this up and running it.

I wonder if you would want to put an old motheaten tune I originally did on wax ( boy, that is old)in 1950 on my old 1942 ,6 pedal ,8 string ,Gibson Electra-Harp? Keep up the good work...al.:):)

Thanks, Charles. Now I got to figure out how to send it. I think it is in Wav. What do you need ? Maybe I can switch it to MP3 for less space....al.:)
