Unique Sho-Bud Crossover stolen

Post by Bobbe Seymour »

Stolen from loading dock at Steel Guitar Nashville.
A very unique Sho-Bud Baldwin cross over. Six pedals and two knee levers, This personal guitar was built for me in '68 by the Sho-Bud Co.

It has a black front, natural Maple top, Rosewood necks. Original finish top has turned orange-yellow with age. This guitar is very special to me and a appropreate reward will be paid for info leading to it's return. This is the only Sho-Bud ever known built with this combination of colors and two factory knee levers on the right knee.

Thank you, please help, anyone hear anything please let me know.

Bobbe, I will certainly be on lookout up here in NW Arkansas. I can't understand anyone taking someones guitar but most certainly one they will never be able to have out in public without being caught up with. It can't do them any good. What a waste.

So Sorry Bobbe...

Anytime an instrument is stolen is sad, but when it's one that has a special history with you the hurt is much worse.

I suspect it'll find it's way back to you, my friend.

In the mean time, let me know if you need to borrow a Steel to keep working. ;-)

This guitar is the guitar I used when I first moved to Nashville and I played it on my first jobs in this town, Ray Price, Stonewall Jackson, Connie Smith, Billy Walker, and Claude Gray. This is also the guitar on the cover of my first instrumental CD.

There is a possibility the a FedEx driver could have picked it up and lost it, but this company is denying this theory.

Naturally, the sentamental value to me is pretty high.

I appreciate everyone keeping an eye out for this strangly unique steel guitar. There isn't but one like it I'm sure.
It's present condition was excellent with no personal mods. Pure factory as delivered in 1969. The "clear" lacquer on top has turned yellow with age but this is to be expected at 40 years old.

Thank you all.

Bobbe, I can't believe some local sumb---- grabbed your guitar. It has to still be in the area. I'll keep my eyes and ears on the lookout. It'll turn up.

When we find it, and whoever it was... ya want me to have Guido have a chat with him? ;-)

Bobbe,
This is awful news. So sorry that happened to you.
I remember the guitar very well. It is a beautiful representation of that Sho-Bud era. As you pointed out, I still have mine and would hate to part with it, as it was my first pedal steel, purchased around 1969 or so. I hope you recover yours. Please keep us informed.

Having owned a '69 Baldwin D-10, I can also attest to their amazing tone. There was something unearthly about it, very ethereal. Sad news, Bobbe. I hope it gets returned to you safe and sound. Like the others pointed out, its orginality will probably be in its favour and it could very well be returned to your hands in the same condition as it left. Here's hoping that's the case.

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing you in Ashtabula a few weeks ago.

I certainly hate to hear this. What bummer!!!!
I will keep a sharp eye out around the Muscle Shoals area just in case it drifted south.

Bobbe,

The theft of your guitar is nothing less than a travesy! I pray that whoever has it will reconsider their actions, and that it will be returned to you in mint condition - hopefully with a note of appology.

Bobbe, My heart aches to read this. I've never lost a PSG but I once had a Gibson Les Paul that was stolen right out of the club I was playing at the end of the night. It's almost as if I were dumped by the only girl I ever loved. My heart was broken. I'll leep you in my prayers.

I spend a lot of time on the internet these days. Send me some pictures of it and I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Bobbe - I hope you have better luck than I did. 3 Sho Bud steel guitars were stolen off the dock in St. Louis that were going to Bobby Chatfield in Springfield, MO. A guy showed up at my store about 5:00 pm on a Saturday with one of them wanting to sell it. That was way back when my store was in my home. I went up stairs and called our local police department and they told me it was out of their jurisdiction. I then call the FBI and all the agents were off until Monday. The guy got away Scott free...
