I need an instructional book of "licks"

Post by James Mayer »

I have a hybrid lap steel with two levers so that I can get pedal steel sounds. B can be raised to C# and G# can be raised to A. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is equivalent to to the "A" and "B" pedals on a PSG.

I want to exploit these levers as much as possible and I'm wondering if there is a "A and B pedal licks" book out there with an included CD so I can hear how they are applied.

Any ideas?

The only one I am aware of is the Jeff Newman Up From the Top PART 1

"Learn the Scale Melody Patterns, Licks and Phrases of the A & B Pedals. Four-hour course includes tablature book, videocassettes and audiocassette. Songs like Storms Never Last, Swinging Doors, Blues Stay Away From Me and more. The video shows the hands and pedals.

$99.00 + S&H"

Not cheap, but from what I've seen of Jeff's stuff, probably worth it.

Thanks, I'm looking into it.

If you hear of anything else, let me know.

I don't have a VCR or a cassette player. Any chance this has been updated to CD and DVD?

Funny, I can't find it for sale, unused, in the US.

I'm wondering if this book is right for me if I'm using a 6-string lap steel tuned to EBEG#BE instead of E9. Can anyone verify whether or not I have the notes necessary to play the licks and phrases in the Newman course?

You'll be able to play some of it but not all. Seems like the course is geared more towards chords if I recall. Are you able to get ALL of the chords with those changes on your guitar?
