I thought I'd heard Jim Loessberg play steel

Post by Larry King »

but I was wrong. However I finally did Sat nite at Pearls with Justin Trevino. He was on top of his game and played everything with authority. It was Justin's birthday and as usual the place was packed. Thanks to A.J. over at Ernest Tubb's , she put me in touch with the owner who provided excellent seating.Needless to say we had a large time and they even let my buddy Dwain Carger set in on drums for a few songs.Back to Jim , I cannot tell you how well he played.....it was awesome.
A big FYI for those of you who are "out of the area" , they (Billy Mata , Bobby Flores , Jake Hooker , and Justin Trevino) all play a four hour gig on one break and there is zero down time between songs....back to back to back shuffle fours and walking waltzes.
In conclusion re: Jim....not bad for a drummer.

Jim is a great talent on steel and on drums. Jim also does a good job with his recording studio. If you need to record a project in the Austin area, give Jim a try. Also, Jim is just a good guy and a pleasure to know.

Jim has been one of my favorite players since the first time I heard him with Johnny Bush in the 80s. He plays what I want to hear and with wonderful tone and touch whether it be country or jazz.

i'm really glad to see Jim getting some recognition here. he's just a monster player with an incredibly expansive knowledge of music and the history of steel guitar. besides that he has been invaluable to me in my pursuit of learning this instrument. he's always helping me with everything from choosing gear to learning intros the right way. thanks Jim!

A lot of people don't know that, in addition to his superb Texas steel guitar stylings, he is one of the very best Bebop steel players in the world today. I wish he'd do some more of that cuz he's just so great at it.

I was amazed at how much music a three peice band could put out. They were without a doubt awesome.

Jim is one of my very favorite players. I have admired his playing for a long time. He has everything I like to hear in a player, such as: tone, touch, feeling, taste and he is also very knowledgable. I have his instrumental album and also an album he played on and produced for Curtis Potter both in my car all the time.

I met Jim one night when he was playing with Johnny Bush. It was probably 25 years ago. His playing back then was just absolutely stunning. I can only imagine what it must be like now.

Jim is a monster steeler, no doubt. And as mentioned above, has been an incredibly talented player for a long time. We were Bandolero's together back in 1980 & '81 and he was a Godzilla back then! Add in a lot of years and that will tell you how much command of the instrument Jim has today. Then to be the top traditional country drummer available anywhere, that is pretty unbelievable.

He's got an excellent steel CD called "Sawed-Off Shotgun" that's available at: www.startexrecords.com as well as a huge variety of some of the best steel instructional courses you can find. He's also featured on my new CD Neon Nights on both steel and drums.

And let me tell you, Dave Biller is playing his tail off on his old Sho-Bud. Watch out for this guy. Keep it up Dave!

I recently had the pleasure of singing with Jim at a steel show and if you think it's fun listening, you should have him backing you on steel.
He is a great talent and is also one of the nicest people you can meet.
I had a ball and hope to have the invitation to join him again. He plays it like it should be played.....

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Love to watch this man on stage. Nothing but business and a tremendous player. Has a good website with some terrific material available. Jim comes by his talent honestly. His papa, Les, was one of the greatest steelers to step upon a bandstand. Great family and a more down to earth individual you'll not meet. Go gittem' Jim.
