C'mon guys - the video is utterly preposterous. The product of some totally clueless mid 1960s ad-man or record promoter pasting together a soulful tune he doesn't understand and that needs no visual illustration - with rejects from the Hullaballoo Go-Go Girls apparently dancing to a completely different song with whatever props happened to be available on the soundstage that day and all the production value of a kindergarten play. Still - Brook Benton gamely goes along with the program. That's why it's all so hilarious - it's absolutely artless.

This is what I was talking about. Scopitones that I remember all had bikinied girls on the screen.
Here's the link: http://www.scopitonearchive.com/
There were a number of "soundies" produced on film
for these machines.

Michael, I agree. There is a total disconnect between the go-go dancers and this incredible, soulful song. The girls look like the are dancing to a different song... a surf song, Wipeout, or some Johnny Rivers Whisky-a-Go-Go tune. It's all about marketing the pop image of the day, even if that means cramming a square peg into a round hole!

Yeah, he sings it great. But what a depressing song for a 61 year-old to hear.
I think it's obvious the girls were intended to be dancing to a much faster beat to make the point they were too fast for an old guy. Unfortunately that gimmick gets old after about 10 seconds. After that, you just wish they would get rid of the girls and let him sing. Or, even better, get rid of him and just let the girls dance to the right music. That blond in the see-through one piece could make Silly Putty hard.
Check out the Scopitone of Kay Starr singing Wheel of Fortune, with the dancers in correct time. More nice moves. Didn't Bobbe Seymour play with her?

Yeah, totally absurd. But after I had a good laugh, I just closed my eyes and listened to the great Brook Benton singing at the top of his form. No need to let this distract from the great music. I find I have to do that with a lot of music these days. This kind of stuff is what passes for kitschy cool these days - ahh - Austin Powers anyone?
