Paul Franklin has as good a version as I've heard.It's on the Dan Tyack CD "Blackened Toast". Some really good stuff,some cuts are really "Nasty"(nasty in a good way)

I've not heard them all, but Lloyd Green's version was the most tasteful I've ever heard. Wish I could find album on CD.

Bryan Setzer did a GREAT version on 6 string, Larry Carlton also.

I don't know if he ever recorded it but Bugs Henderson with Kirby Kelly on lap steel did an amazing version at one of his shows that I caught.

It's kind of funny, but Sneaky Pete has a really nice, stylistic version of it - and he didn't even like the song! He recorded it because it was requested so much he had to finally cave in.

The Tabbing of 15 major artists on one CD playing "Sleepwalk" would be a worthwhile project. 15 individual styles wrapped up on one CD. Each player's influence would indeed offer the ultimate in a good range of stylistic artistry.

There was a period of 20 years, extending from 1959 to 1979 when major record companies were recording major steel guitarists on major labels. The album could be identified by its I.D. #. If "Sleepwalk" was included in any of those recordings during that period, I'd be delighted if someone could produce such a list. Dozens upon dozens of the recordings are in the possession of promoters in St. Louis, Texas, and N.Y. and remain the property of the organizations. My search has nothing whatever to do with those performances. The local clubs in my neighborhood have been reviving the smash hit of '59. That melody just lingers on and on, into the 21st century. The song was recorded by a group, (perhaps in the late 60's), and featured vocalization, singing the words of the song.

The performers at The International show past and present import their arrangements to the show where they are locked away. The same strict rules apply at the P.S.G.A. in N.Y. Taping is allowed, but don't expect to get a quality recording due to excessive background noises from various chatterings. I managed to successfully achieve quality recordings taken off the "board" at our MassBash, sponsored by the American Music Foundation, in Lenox Ma. What a show! Buzz Evans highlighted the show, and the jam session turned out to be one of the best I've heard. Five super pickers treated the attendees to some rare and exciting talent. If you line up Doug Beaumier, Randy Rollman, David Van Allen, Buzz Evans, and Jimmy Roule, prepare yourself for a new experience in steel guitar expertise. I think I'll give Smiley a call about the frequency of "Sleepwalk" recordings in earlier times. I think Smiley will know if major artists included the hit more often than is commonly known.
