Peelin' Taters on dobro, link now works

Post by Greg Booth »

Here's a silly tune from honkytonk Junior Brown and his Guit-steel. I didn't fully appreciate the title until I started figuring it out, then I realized it's an apt description of the bar movement used to play it. Also requires mucho palm blocking. This is a sound and style you don't hear very often on the dobro, probably for a good reason! The tuning is GCEGAC, a C6th variation I can tune my guitar to without changing string guages, although the E is pretty tight. It's my first stab at C6th tuning and it's pretty fun. WARNING: my family has complained that they can't get this tune out of their heads!

It's hosted over on Reso-Nation.org, so you probably need to register there to hear it.

Wow! That is excellent. Very fun tune (for listening...I'd probably blow my brains out in frustration if I tried to learn it).

It keeps telling me that the confirmation code is incorrect, no matter how careful I fill in the correct case. Oh well!

That's great. I just played it here in the office and my co-workers are loving it too. Great playing and fun sounding.

Alternate C6

Post by Richard Sevigny »

I retuned my "cheap-bro" to your C6 tuning. As a guy who's mostly played open D and regular C6 on electric lap, I'm finding it quite easy to find my way on. :D

Don't ask me to peel 'taters too soon though...
