Theme song, Riders of The Purple Sage?
Can anyone in here remember the name of the theme song that the Riders Of The Purple Sage used.
I play a weekly gig at a local legion close to our home town and one old fellow keeps requesting that theme song. He tries to hum it for us; however, he couldn't hit a note on key if his life depended on it.

Well, if'n he's a real old fellow, he's probably talking about the original (Foy Willing) band. Their theme song was "There's A Rainbow Over The Range". One of the Rider's other famous songs, "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" was adopted by the Sons Of The Pioneers" as their theme song. These two groups were the biggest and most popular of the "cowboy groups" that were seen and heard in so many western movies from the '30's to through the '50e.

Les,
I have a ton of the old "All Star Western Theatre" radio shows that they did and they used to open each show with a few bars of something "Drifting Along, Singing a Song Under a Western Moon." That was it of the opening theme. I never heard them do more than that title. I never heard a complete song. As a side note Freddie Taveras did some nice Steel work with them on some of their material.
